The look isn't bad, but since there is padding only at the heel area and not under the ball of the foot it hurts! After several times of wear it has conformed to my foot, which has made these shoes by far my most comfortable yet. I am on my feet for at least 8 hours a day and these Clarks keep my feet happy. The quality of this shoe is excellent. I don't have one complaint and I receive so many compliments on the look of this Clark. Many people want to know where I got it. I originally ordered the size that I generally wear in tennis shoes and found that I needed a half size smaller, so that is something to take into consideration. I must say that I am one happy Clarks purchaser and a very satisfied Zappos customer! You can't beat Zappos customer service. (Thank you other reviewers.) MS has caused neuropathy in the bottoms of my feet. Both shoes work great to help me walk. The Desert Treks were very tight to get on, thought it was a big mistake, but another reviewer said they would stretch, they did within minutes. I love them and am grateful for the reviews. However I do wish that the shoes were't so heavy. I don't remember them being so heavy, when I was wearing them back in the 40's, and thru the years untill I couldn't find them anymore. I guess the weight is due to the soles. For a person my age and with a bad back I look for comfort (which your shoes have)looks and a cushion sole. Your product is above all of these standards. I bought my first pair of Trek's when I went to college in the 70's, my second pair before I got married in 1980, and my third pair in the 2000. I still have them all. The older pairs have been resoled twice. I can't part with them. They feel so good on your feet. I've worn them to work and to travel across Europe. I had my first pr. 30 yrs. ago, and have missed having another pr. for the last 20 yrs. I would check shoe stores that sold Clarks, but never found the Trek That I remembered. I found them at your website (along with the Cumulus) in the beeswax leather. My elf shoes did exist for me again! They were comfortable the first day I wore them, and have gotten more so since then. They seem true to size and width for me. I remembered them as so great to wear and found that they still are. I bought them in England - everybody asks me where I got them and are disappointed you can't buy them locally. They are the most comfortable shoes I own! OK the crepe soles attract the dirt but then again they look just fine like that. I am going to buy a pair in leather - I figure they will be better for the winter. I sprayed mine with water repellant and I wear them in the snow. I live in Saskatchewan, Canada and believe me - we get lots of snow. I loved those shoes, but I'm disappointed they're not available in womens sizes. If they ever are, I'll be the first in line to order them. I was very excited to get the desert treks which are pretty close to the desert boot. I love the look of them, the feel of them, and I and everything about them. I will probably have to have them in another color before it's all said and done. They are great shoes. Look:Cool and classic. I've gotten compliments on these from all different kinds of people - kids who are intrigued by the retro look as well as adults who remember them from the first time around. They are absolutely comfortable - lots of room in the front for your toes to lay flat, yet fits snug and perfect. The materials and craftsmanship is very high quality. The only downside is that the rubber crepe sole binds to dirt like crazy. Look:You really do need a pair of these! Just like the former review, I owned a brown pair in high school. They were my best pair of shoes EVER! I was thrilled to see them come back! Just got a black pair and was so excited when they arrived, fit, and were so very comfortable. I started calling friends to share my good news. When I called my dearest old friend and said "remember the shoes I loved in high school... the ones uglier than sin...?" She at once started describing them and how I wore them daily for at least three years. I'm in heaven! Many friends and my sister-in-law are all Imelda Marcos wanna-be's with their shoe collections. For me, this one pair is the "mother lode" of shoes! Thank you Zappos for the fair price and great shipping and service. When they go on sale, I'll buy the desert trek in other colors also. Bottom Line: These are the best shoes I've ever owned -- and I feel blessed to find them and own them again! You won't be disappointed by these shoes. The crepe sole is lightweight, the leather soft and supple. If you want a quality pair of shoes -- THIS IS IT!
