I ended up buying four pairs including a brown pair, black pair, and two more pairs for backups in anticipation of my originals wearing out. After about six months the elastic connecting the button to the strap gave out. The strap is elastic but only stretches a small bit. Because of the way the shoe is constructed, it's impossible for your cobbler to add more elastic to give more vamp/arch room. The only option is for the cobbler to detach the strap and move it up on the shoe a bit--now I'm left with a strap that's too high and doesn't touch the top of my foot. However, I have a big wide foot (11W) and it made my foot look very wide, so I returned it. I bought the patent/suede ones and it is a beautiful combo. Only thing I might point out is that the shoe might not look good on someone with a big foot. This shoe works well because it's very comfortable when walking or standing, even after 6 hours or more, yet it looks professional/business casual. It has good support and the softer sole and heel are very forgiving. Superb construction. Fits like a comfort shoe but with flair; even a mischievous air. But I'm experimenting with widths; ordered a Wide, which is too large in every way (though my regular size otherwise). Straps rise well above even my (high!) instep, and I walk out of them even with Zappos helpful Heelz. But by all means order them if your size is right. They're keepers. Of Zappos, I've used dictionary and thesaurus over these years, and keep running out of suitable adjectives. To say I've never bought shoes anywhere else since I happened onto Zappos tells the story. For example, I had technical trouble ordering replacement shoes when I returned these, and a Zappos gentleman all but stood on his head to help me, solving all problems including one on another subject: My computer (or something) had failed to copy the entire page that should go in the return box, so I typed an explanatory note; told him and asked if that would do it; and he reassured me. What a lovely timbre his voice has...we spoke last night; perhaps you'll compliment him.
