BUT these are an exception. This is an extremely comfortable and stylish shoe and very quiet. These little numbers come in wide widths though. They fit perfectly, and are very comfortable. I bought the red color, and they are a little darker in color than they looked online. The heel is a perfect height for all day use. The only thing I really don't care for is the insole. There is a gap between the insole and the shoe (right in the tip of the toe area) when you walk. I imagine this is due to the stretchiness of the upper, which of course affords you the 'give' in the toe box area. This was remedied with a store bought insole for additional comfort. I received compliments the first day I work my Taupe shoes. I also have black. I had to buy size 12 Narrow because they don't carry half sizes after 11. I have to wear thicker socks to keep my feet in them, which causes some pressure in the front of one of the shoes. Either way, I love the shoes and LOVE Zappos. I am averaging two shoes a month from Zappos. I know the shoes will make it to my home within a few days and if they don't fit, I can send them back for free! You can't find that anywhere else. The only problem I have is with the arch support - because there really isn't any. I have bunions and arthritis, not a great combo with high heels. I can handle a day of work if there is good support and cushion. I added my own arch support and ball cushion so my foot wouldn't slide down and cramp up. I definitely have "problem feet" so I am not easy to please at all and frequently have to send shoes back. These were a keeper from the moment I tried them on. They felt better than a brand new pair of sneakers! I wore these today w/ no hosiery from 7:30 am until almost 11:00 pm and had no desire to take them off, whereas I usually have to take my shoes off several times a day to wiggle my toes and I normally can't wait to kick them off as soon as I get home. The leather on these is like an expensive pair of gloves. The insole cushioning is to die for and the design of the sole positions the weight of your body in exactly the right place so the ball of your foot doesn't hurt. Lookswise, I'm very impressed as well. They are topstitched which adds visual interest, but unlike so many other shoes, these thankfully are not topstitched with white thread. They look so much more sophisticated w/ the dark topstitching. And I'm really pleased the black color has silver buckles. I figured the Marillas would be a skirt-only shoe, but today I took a chance with pants and they looked spectacular, like a slightly platform pump with a really unique toe shape. I thought I had bought all of my fall/winter shoes already, but I might have to get a second pair of these in a different color. And I'm pretty sure I'll be ordering a pair of the ankle boots styles in a few weeks, too. (I've tried on a few different Artisan styles and all fit beautifully.) I'm going to write to Clarks and beg them to never stop making the Artisan line because they are beyond incredible and I expect to be a fan for life. I prefer more room in the toe box because of bunions and neuromas, which the shoe provides. The padding in the toe box is comfortable too. The leather is very soft and pliable. I have a narrow heel and the shoe fits well there also. My only negative is the upper strap needs another hole or two for the buckle, as it is too loose. I bought the shoe in Vampire Red and Taupe. If I need other colors, I would buy again.
