Instead, it was as though there was no cushioning at all. I wish I could return them. They look nice, but left the balls of my feet on fire. Overall, they are comfortable although they feel a tad tight across the top of my foot and ankle. They are very attractive. The heel is a little higher than I normally wear, but they are solid and not wobbly. I have been trying to replace my black ankle boots for months and have had no luck - nothing fit quite right. These arrived last night and I opened the box this morning, zipped them on and I've been wearing them all day. They ran true to size and have the perfect heel height to be able to walk in easily but still look a little dressy. These are very comfy to walk in all day even though they have a short heel. I live in the desert, so I really don't need them to keep my feet very warm but I think they would do pretty well with a thick pair of socks. The leather is incredibly soft and supple, didn't need any breaking in. In fact, these were the only shoes I could comfortably wear to work (my Teva's weren't allowed) after having an ingrown toenail surgically removed. I wore this boot the first day on a long travel day out of the country. The next day I wore it on cobblestone streets and walked all day and I was amazed it wore so well on the first real day of wear. I wear 7 1/2 or 8 depending on the shoe. I ordered an 8 and they fit perfectly. I have worn them all day and it hardly felt like I was even in heels. Perfect height, falling just above the ankle. The heel is very easy to walk in. They wide design of the heel adds support to your walk. None of that staggering like on pointy heels.
