I've always loved Clarks shoes, and these boots live up to the reputation for good construction and comfort. However, I will be purchasing Dr. Scholl's inserts to take up the 1/2 size too big. I'm generally a spot on size 8, and these are too big. I tried on seven pairs of boots from Zappos, and this boot was by far the best fit, most comfortable and best value out of all seven pair. This boot was comfortable, right from the "get go". I normally order wide shoes, but decided not to with the purchase of these boots. They are plenty wide enough and fit like a glove--a sexy boot, I think. I highly recommend this boot. I've been searching for classic black boots that I can dress up or down, for working all day and going out as well. I've bought and returned two pairs from Zappos in the past week before finding these. Very good looking, I love the stretch leather. The ankle looks relaxed, but not loose, kind of cool. My husband loves them. The heel height is perfect, the other reviewers are dead on right that there is absolutely no break-in needed at all. Good looking, versatile, and comfy. I can walk many city blocks all day in the boot. My feet do not hurt at the end of the day with these boots. One of the best features of this boot is the sole -- it's non-skid!! The boot stays up pretty well but sometimes, throughout the day, I must hike up the boot. Overall, great boot and I would purchase them again. These boots need a separate insole to provide the support of the high heel so that your feet don't get sore from smacking on the pavement. I always go up a size in a boot to make room for thicker socks. I wear a size 5 - 5.5. Ordered 5.5 and have at least 1 in. of toe room. The calves are extremely snug. My calf measured 12.5 in. The leg is snug, so it doesn't fall down like some boots. The heel is high enough so your legs don't look chunky, but not so tall that they're uncomfortable. The toe box of the shoe is pretty flexible, so I don't feel that painful stiffness that results in your toes being pressed into the front of your too-tall boots. I have narrow calves and purchased one size smaller since the reviews stated they run big. They are perfect. Wore them with my bootcut jeans the same evening I got them since it was chilly outside. It felt so comfortable, no breaking needed whatsoever. I have decided to buy a second one since I know will be using these for a long time. I love these boots and wear them on a regular basis for long periods of time. They're easy to walk in and they have a rubber sole, so I'm not afraid of falling. The stretch is good for a larger calf and I have longer legs and the shaft almost reaches my knee. Super comfy, the perfect heel height for me, and very little break-in time needed. I too have been searching for a non-zip, stretchy, tall boot, and it is no easy task since I have 18" calves and what I call "Flintstone Feet!" True to what the other reviewers said, they are a 1/2 size too big, but since I am a size 7.5-8, I was worried about it fitting my calves if I ordered the smaller size. They will be fine with thick socks in the winter. I also agree that they are not trendy, but they have a classic look that I will definitely wear for a couple of more seasons. I have owned other Clarks, and they are just soooo comfortable. These boots definitely live up to that high standard. It took me 1 1/2 yrs to find an affordable sexy knee high boot that doesn’t have a zipper. Every site and store that I searched in the past had nice looking boots that were stiff and had zippers, finally a boot that is stylish and comfortable and the shaft height is perfect. I have small calves and most boots swim on me but these are perfect. I even bought a second pair for backup to use for years to come. These are also perfect for those who need a tall shaft. I hate it when boots stop at the widest part of my calf! They aren't trendy (not round, or pointy, and not as square as I'd feared), so I think they'll work for a few more seasons.
